Intersection Traffic Engineering Notes by Kaisar Farooq
Asalamu Aliekum friends, In this article I am going to share the Hand-Written Notes of Intersection & Interchange of Traffic Engineering. These topics are very important. The Study material is written from various sources. The notes have been compiled in easy language so that it becomes easy for students to understand the concepts.
- Intersection: It is the area where two or more roads meet. Its main function is to guide vehicles to their respective directions.
- Types of Intersection: It is of two types; Intersection at Grade, Grade Separated Intersection.
- Intersection at Grade: All road intersections which meet at the same level, allowing merging, diverging, crossing and weaving are called Intersection at Grade.
- Grade Separated Intersection: In Grade Separated Intersection, roads meet at different level . For example, flyover.
- Interchange: It is a grade separated intersection with the facility of ramp for turning traffic between approaching highway.
- Traffic Rotaries: They are special form of intersection at grade laid out for the movement of traffic in one direction arround a central traffic island.
- Design Parameters: Design Speed, Radius of Curve at Entry, Radius of Curve at Exit, Radius of Central Traffic Island, Width of Weaving Section, Width of road, Weaving Length, Entry & Exit Angles, Capacity of Rotary.
- Conflict Points: These are the locations in intersection where vehicle paths merge, diverge or cross.
If you find any topic missing in these notes,do that by yourself.
These notes will be very helpful for Semester exams as well as GATE and other Competitive Exams. After reading theory from these notes, practice more and more numericals to get better understanding of concepts.
